Erin Spence, Veterinarian
Dr. Spence has been a practicing veterinarian since 2002. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College after completing a Bachelor of Science at the
University of Guelph in wildlife biology. Originally from Ottawa, she decided to open an animal clinic in Toronto after working as an associate for a large and busy practice in North York. For several years she also worked part time in veterinary emergency hospitals. In spring of 2010 Dr. Spence opened Islington Village Animal Hospital, a full-service animal clinic in Etobicoke. Her veterinary interests include internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, and canine rehabilitation.
Dr. Spence has lived in Toronto since graduating from vet school and loves all the exciting things the city has to offer. She enjoys fitness, golfing, cycling, and spending time with friends and family. She has a passion for the outdoors and wildlife. She lives in Etobicoke with her spouse, and has a beloved dog named Jack, and sweet Tessie, a.k.a. "Whitey", the clinic cat!
Andria Macri, Hospital Manager
Andria joined the team early in 2011 and has almost 20 years of experience working in the veterinary field. For ten of those years she has worked part time at a veterinary emergency hospital where she originally met Dr. Spence. At home Andria keeps herself busy with her husband, 2 children, her dog Cookie, and a cockatiel named Alphalfa. In her spare time she volunteers at her children's school as the vice-chair of the parent committee.
Cara, Veterinary Technician
Cara joined the team at Islington Village Animal Hospital in June 2011. She is a fully registered veterinary technician that is highly skilled and experienced. She has been a great addition to the team at IVAH, ensuring high quality nursing care of our animal patients. She has extensive skills in veterinary emergency care, and assisting Dr. Spence in surgery and anesthesia. She has many pets of her own including 2 dogs and 6 cats.
Alicia, Veterinary Assistant
Alicia has been a member of the Islington Village Animal Hospital team since Dec. 2010. Helping animals has always been a passion for her. She has acquired skills after working in veterinary clinics and volunteering for the Etobicoke humane society as well as other local animal shelters. She is the proud owner of 3 very spoiled cats and 2 turtles. In her spare time she enjoys playing golf and spending time with friends and family. She is working toward further training to become a veterinary technician.
Melissa, Co-Op Student
Melissa was our co-op student for the winter semester of 2011. She has a keen interest in animals and veterinary medicine. She hopes to pursue a career as a veterinarian herself one day. She kindly volunteers her time at Islington Village Animal Hospital when we need extra help.
